Rishi Kapoor, who was in the US for nearly 11 months, where he underwent treatment for cancer, returned home early Tuesday morning. He tweeted, “BACK HOME!!!!!! 11 Months 11days! Thank you all!” Neetu Kapoor, who courageously stood by her husband through it all, was all smiles at the airport on their return. The actor looked ecstatic to be back. When we reached out to Kapoor, he thanked us for the wishes. After the long journey home, the actor surely needs times to settle back in, get into the groove and soak in all the love from his well-wishers here.
In an elaborate previous interview with BT, he had said that he couldn’t wait to come back. Sounding emotional, he had shared, “People may wonder what I am doing in America for so long. I move around, eat, drink, shop and watch films. I can’t come home because I am bound by the hospital — I am undergoing treatment and under observation. For me, this has taken great patience; else I would have left this place and come back to Mumbai a long time ago. I have seen all four seasons of this city (New York). I came here in September last year, which was autumn. I went through winter, spring and now, it is summer.”
Looking back at his ordeal, he recalled, “The most important thing that these past nine months have taught me, apart from the fact that I had to recover from a disease, is patience. I never had that before. The fact is, you have to be patient and let things take its own course.” Here’s welcoming the actor back and we can’t wait to see him on the big screen soon.

Mirror was the first to report (September 6) that Rishi Kapoor, who has been in New York since last year for treatment, will return to India on September 10. After 11 months and 11 days, the actor stepped out of the airport at 3 am on Tuesday, accompanied by wife Neetu Singh. Ranbir Kapoor who, on Monday evening, was spotted outside Karan Johar’s office, stayed home with sister Riddhima to prepare for the homecoming. Neetu, later, posted a picture (inset) of the house decked up with ‘Welcome Home Dad’ balloons. “This simple balloon has so much warmth, love and belonging (sic),” she exulted.
Rishi Kapoor, who brought in his 67th birthday on September 4, is waiting to get back in action. “The moment I get back, I will take 15 days off to connect with my roots, get over the jet lag and by end of September, I will start shooting,” he had told Mirror
(July 17). Before leaving for treatment on September 30 last year, the actor had wrapped up a major chunk of his upcoming thriller, The Body, which also features Emraan Hashmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Vedhika. It was shot in a 39-day schedule in Mumbai and Mauritius. Now that the actor is back in the Bay, makers hope to complete the patchwork and get started on the dubbing. “We’re planning to begin towards the end of this month or beginning of October based on the schedule of the actors. We’ll soon finalise the dates and announce the release date in concurrence with the Studio,” producer Sunir Kheterpal said.
Sanjay Dutt informed Mirror that he is looking forward to team up with the actor for his home production. A comedy titled Pandit Galli Ka Ali, it will be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh. When we reached out to Sanjay for an update, the filmmaker said, “It’s too early to comment on the film as Rishi sir has just returned to India. I have been in constant touch with both Sanju sir and Rishi sir since the last few months. I am looking forward to seeing him back at work.”
A source close to the actor reveals that apart from the above mentioned films, Rishi has liked several other subjects and will sign a new film within a fortnight. “It will roll this year itself, before he starts work on Pandit Galli Ka Ali,” the source signs off.
