Adeleye Fayehun, a known Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thug in Akure, Ondo State, has beaten up a pregnant lady and put her in a coma over a small argument,
According to reports, the victim, Adenike Adeolu, is a local timber contractor headquartered in the state capital.
Mr. Fayehun, also known as “Ade-Basket,” was reported to have assaulted a 46-year-old pregnant woman for daring to oppose his authority during a meeting called to resolve concerns about unlawful taxes among forestry entrepreneurs in the State.
According to family members who spoke to SaharaReporters’ New York office, the Timber Dealers Association organised a meeting at the Infinity Hotel in Akure, where the heinous tragedy happened.
In a phone discussion, one of the family members alleged that Mr. Fayehun and his sons assaulted the pregnant mother with multiple punches and strikes.
“He (Ade-Basket) hit the innocent woman in the neck numerous times and yanked her hair in an effort to kill the pregnant woman for daring to oppose him over an issue involving unlawful money taxes,” a family source told our correspondent.
He said that the abused woman had been protesting about “undue taxation” imposed on timber industry dealers who had been thwarted by Mr. Fayehun and his cronies in the State.
Olusegun Adeolu, the victim’s husband, who also talked with SaharaReporters, revealed that his wife was beaten to a coma by street-boys who were mostly thugs acting on the perpetrator’s orders.
Mr. Adeolu went on to say that the criminal had threatened to kill his wife for years over difficulties connected to her timber company.
“They beat up my wife to the point where blood was running out of her lips and put her in a coma,” he said. “My wife has complained several times about how Ade-Basket has taxed them [women] who engage in this sort of business.”
He said that his injured wife was hospitalised and demanded further punishment.
“I don’t want this issue brushed under the rug.” “Please, you must assist me,” the irritated spouse begged.
Security services in the state have repeatedly labelled the perpetrator, Mr. Fayehun, wanted for different offences, according to SaharaReporters.
According to reports, officials from the Nigeria Police Force’s (NPF) Ondo State Command caught Mr. Fayehun in one of his hideouts as he prepared to depart the area.
In a separate phone call late Thursday evening, police sources verified the arrest to SaharaReporters’ New York office.
According to one of the police sources, the apprehended suspect made confessional admissions confirming his involvement in the mistreatment and abuse of the forty-four-year-old pregnant woman.
According to a police official who requested anonymity, the criminal is being supported by certain bigwigs in the Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The moron has always been on our hit list for either attacking young females or killing innocent souls in Akure,” the officer explained.
“He’s simply using his power as a PDP member to stir up issues in the hope that his paymasters will always bail him out,” the enraged officer claimed. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you that this rogue and his henchmen have murdered sleep in the eyes of many locals.”
According to sources, the criminal and his thugs have been abusing innocent ladies who work in the forestry industry in the state.
“We’re sick and weary of ‘Ade-Basket.’ He enjoys assaulting women on the street, particularly those involved in the timber trade, according to one source.
The insider claimed that “you’d constantly witness him collecting extra taxes from those women before allowing them to enter the jungle to cut down trees for sale.”
Following a brief disagreement in Akure, the State capital, in 2012, this same perpetrator assaulted a young woman and stripped her nude in a public location.
According to SaharaReporters, the victim’s family has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, requesting the cooperation of all human rights groups and activists in investigating the issue.
