In light of Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, it’s not unexpected that the long-running Alien property would be of interest to them. As of this writing, there are six mainstream films and two crossovers with the Predator series in the Alien franchise. Now it seems that the series will continue with a new feature.
When asked about the studio’s forthcoming slate of projects, Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, recently indicated that Fede Lvarez will direct the movie.
Because of Fede’s proposal, the studio agreed to take the project, according to Asbell.
Simply said, it was a fantastic story with a diverse cast of new people.
To date, Lázaro is most known for directing and producing Don’t Breathe 2 and the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre revival for Netflix; he also helmed the 2013 Evil Dead reboot and the 2016 thriller Don’t Breathe.
Additionally, the film will be produced by long-time filmmaker Ridley Scott, who also served as director of the series’ genesis film. Before Alien: Isolation and Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott directed the prequels Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). As of this writing, it seems that a third film was in the works, but it has since been cancelled.
Like the forthcoming Predator prequel picture “Pray,” this film will be released only on Hulu and not in cinemas. Disney is battling a case that would make it difficult for the original makers of the Predator film to reclaim their rights due to pre-existing contracts.
In particular, given that Fede Lázarez is directing, how enthused are you about the film? We don’t know if it will be a success or a waste of time.
