Only a few hours after Bill O’Reilly was fired from Fox News after several sexual harassment charges, anchors at a Fox roundtable managed to make vulgar remarks about a female anchor’s looks on television. In front of her. To everyone’s surprise, it seemed like a really cool thing to do.
In response to Kimberly Guilfoyle’s clothing, Greg Gutfeld said, “I believe you’re giving America a raise.” ‘Hey, my peer whom I respect and adore, you’re giving America an erection right now!’
It all began when Bob Beckel complained that people don’t listen to him when he’s genuinely stating the truth, rather than making up lies, which is an other problem altogether, but whatever. “Call your camp counsellor,” Guilfoyle mocked him, to which he answered, “call your dressmaker.”
Cool! Just two professionals conversing on a national platform, respecting each other’s differences.
“And give him a raise!” Guilfoyle rolled with it. and, well, you can guess what occurred after that. The meatier of the two. The whole ‘you’re boning people right now’ thing. The whole “I’m going to shame you live on television because you’re wearing a flattering outfit” thing.
This isn’t an exaggeration when I say it’s blatant sexual harassment. I wasn’t going to get my dictionary out, but, for example:
It’s quite straightforward.
While the other guests sat in horrified silence, Guilfoyle screamed, “Oh my goodness!” and proceeded to laugh it off. When a female presenter attempted to speed things up, Beckel said, “Why don’t you just shut up!” Guilfoyle replied, “See, here we go!”
Aside from the fact that this sounds like a conversation that could have been secretly recorded and used in a deposition, and aside from the fact that Fox News has a long history of sexual harassment, all of this occurred on Wednesday, the same day that Bill O’Reilly was fired for essentially the same reason.
Interactions like this one stand out as part of a chronology, woven into the wider tapestry of Fox’s heritage and present state of things, with Fox in the limelight post-O’Reilly.
