The Big Red One (1980) Movie Review, Cast & Crew, Film Summary

Pvt. Johnson, Pvt. Vinci, Pvt. Johnson, and Pvt. Griff, all World War I veterans and survivors, form a squad in World War II, which they lead through Vichy France, Sicily, D-Day, Belgium, and France, culminating in a prison camp in Czechoslovakia.

A sergeant (Lee Marvin) who served in World War I now commands men of the First Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II. Conflicted marksman and pulp novelist Pvt. Griff (Mark Hamill), as well as Italian Pvt. Vinci (Bobby Di Cicco) and a medic Pvt. Johnson, are among his comrades (Kelly Ward). Wartime difficulties become more bearable for the troops after seeing battles in North Africa and Sicily, participating in the D-Day landings, liberating a Nazi concentration camp, and more.
