There are remnants of ancient cave civilizations in the province of Balochistan, Pakistan, at a place known as Gondrani. It is known as Shehr-e-Roghan in popular culture. This location is a genuine archaeological treasure that is regretfully off-limits to the world. Nobody knows for sure who built these enigmatic cave homes, but one thing is for sure: this place is really amazing. Shehr-e-Roghan is compared by certain historians to the Buddists of the 7th century AD. Bela, formerly known as Lasbela, is located 18 kilometers to the northwest of Shehr-e-Roghan near Gondrani.
Now, what makes Shehr-e-Roghan of Bela so unique? This amazing old cave city spans a distance of two to three kilometers. The most impressive group of these homes may be the magnificent cave homes made out of rocks. Amazingly, these tens of thousands of cave residences are multi-story structures that are connected to one another by walkways. The majority of cave homes are single-room structures, while some may feature verandas in front of them. This enigmatic location is the subject of numerous myths. Shehr-e-Roghan is sometimes referred to as the “city of ghosts” by locals. Some people also associate this location with the ancient tale of Saiful Malook and Badiul Jamal.
Although Balochistan is one of Pakistan’s best provinces, the government there continues to give it the least attention. Nevertheless, there are still many unexplored areas in this wonderful land. The most significant archaeological site in Balochistan is these Buddhist-inspired caves made of conglomerate rocks. Both the federal government of Pakistan and the government of Balochistan must take a special interest in Shehr-e-Roghan. Many archaeological facts can be extracted by turning Gondrani or Shehr-e-Roghan of Bela in Balochistan into a hub of historical knowledge and archeological data. Shehr-e-Roghan can potentially be developed into a magnificent tourist destination, which might become a significant source of income for the Baluchistani and Bela people as well as the government.
