Dell is coming with a new offer on the PC market, called XPS 8900 Special Edition. Several years have passed since a desktop PC has managed to impress the testing bench.
However, it is not a surprise, because nowadays, several hybrids and laptops are taking all the attention.
So, Dell has released a new desktop PC and we are not talking about a small stick that users could plug into a TV or monitor.
No, we are talking about a real PC that has some interesting new specs. Of course, everyone will ask why Dell releases a desktop PC when all the customers are in search of something small and friendly-travel.
Well, that is because HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will only work on computers with desktop-level components. This means that customers who are interested in VR devices should also invest in a desktop PC.
Of course, they could also opt for oversized laptops with desktop parts crammed inside.
One thing is sure though.
People who are interested in a nice VR experience will have to invest a lot of money. For starters, they have to buy an Oculus Rift that costs approximately 599 dollars or a 799 dollars HTC Vive, which is not cheap at all. After that, customers will have to buy a PC system that will cover the VR headsets requirements.
This means that users will have to opt for the current Core i5 or Core i7 CPU and a desktop graphic card that is at least an AMD R9 290 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 970. To be mentioned that no matter how powerful they are, laptop graphic cards won’t currently work.
So, this is where Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition comes into play. With this new system, Oculus Rift already has a compatible gaming PC. The new Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition is available at the price of 999 dollars, which is not a very expensive price.
Why?
Because other VR-ready desktop PCs with high-end Core i7 CPUs and Nvidia 980 card can cost 2,000 dollars or more. So, the price of 999 dollars for Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition is relatively affordable and can represent a nice attraction on the market.
Of course, customers who are willing to invest more money into this PC can opt for a wide range of components, including more powerful graphics, faster processor and solid state of hybrid storage. The 999 dollars model includes a current-gen Intel Core i5-6400 CPU, 1TB hard drive, 8GB of RAM and the Nvidia 970 graphics card.
All these amazing components are sitting inside a plastic and metal chassis. To be added that there is also a 699 dollars version, but it doesn’t work with VR headsets.
The system interior is very accessible, featuring a removable side panel and it also has room for expansions, including four RAM slots, three hard drive bays and two extra PCIe slots.
To be added that the power supply is a 460W. As for the chassis, it is very attractive and feels gigantic, even if it is called a mini-tower.
