It’s happened… Donald Trump has won the Republican nomination, taking another big step towards the White House.
The US Republican presidential candidate is probably tapping his fingers together like Mr Burns as he secures the party’s presidential nomination.
Thanks to a small number of the Republican Party’s unbound delegates, the count has Trump reaching the quota needed to become an official party nominee.
The delegates told AP today they will support Trump at the convention.
He has defeated 16 other Republican contenders with 1,238 delegates – just one more than required.
He is the first candidate in the race to do this.
In a recent weekly average of head-to-head polls, Trump has ever-so-slightly surpassed Hillary Clinton for the first time by a 0.2 per cent lead.
Earlier this month, Trump said he expects to have a ‘good relationship’ with Cameron, despite heavily criticising new London mayor Sadiq Khan.
