In order to give oil tycoons, wealthy ranchers, and Army officers a nice place to stay, Cheyenne’s opulent 5-story hotel was built in 1911. Additionally, it served visitors going to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.
The Cheyenne Securities Company sponsored the hotel, which cost $250,000 to build out, including furniture and décor.
It boasts a spacious ballroom and a foyer with additional lighting from a magnificent stained glass skylight. In addition to having luxurious mahogany and leather furniture throughout, it boasts a central marble staircase.
The Mezzanine once had an orchestra playing for notable visitors when it initially opened. Presidents Truman, Nixon, and Regan have all stayed at the Plains in more recent times.
Its 100 guest rooms each had a phone, a private bathroom, a huge brass bed, and a carpet made of luxurious velvet.
Twice, in the 1930s and in 2002, The Plains underwent renovations. Its luxurious cowboy theme is still enjoyed by many visitors today.One more aspect of the Plains Hotel is openly discussed by those who promote it. Four ghosts that live in the hotel were created as a result of past violence.
A honeymoon couple checked in not long after The Plains opened its doors. This couple was assigned a second-floor suite. Due of the bride’s anxiety about their marriage bed, they got into a fight.
The frustrated and irate husband left his bride and descended to the bar on the first floor. He met a local prostitute there.
In order to defend herself, Rosie, his new wife, who was worried about how long her husband had been gone, got a revolver and went to the pub. She arrived in time to witness her husband departing with the dubious woman.
She accompanied them to the fourth floor where she observed them enter a guest room. She entered the room with boldness after being upset to discover her husband in bed with this woman.
Now enraged by this betrayal, Rosie pulled out a gun, raised it, and shot both of them. She returned to her room and shot herself out of frustration. This double homicide and suicide led to an ongoing haunting.
Rosie’s spirit has already been spotted pacing the second floor. She is described by witnesses as having a disappointed expression on her face and wearing a blue robe.
Guests who have stayed in this suite claim they overheard the actual quarrel between the bride and groom before the husband departed for the bar. Housekeepers claim to have heard phantom sobbing coming from the newlyweds’ room.
The adulterous spouse of Rosie is seen looking elegant. He dress formally in the style of the 1900s, with a long black coat and black polished boots. His shirt is white with silver buttons on it.
He is visible throughout the hotel, including the basement, on the fourth story, and elsewhere.
The prostitute is dressed in a brief red outfit that is laced with white. She is seen in the foyer and on the second floor. She was allegedly observed by several witnesses in the balconies overlooking the foyer.
She has problems with newlyweds. Many people claim to have run into her within the hotel. One Halloween, mannequins dressed as a bride and groom were on exhibit. Witnesses reported seeing a woman in a red dress push the bride mannequin aside before simply vanishing.
The ghost of a guy who murdered a visitor is the fourth ghost encountered in the Plains. He got into a fight with this visitor and pushed him out a fourth-floor window.
Witnesses claim the place where this occurred is filled with rage and a sense of fear.
Visitors claim that when these ghosts are around, windows and doors will open on their own.
