In its efforts to ensure a crime-free yuletide season, the Imo State Police Command arrested some notorious robbery suspects who terrorize innocent citizens at different locations in the state.
Key Points
1. On 23/12/2016, an unsuspecting customer of Fidelity Bank, Ikenegbu branch, had gone to the bank to withdraw the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150,000.00). Immediately he came out of the bank with a bag containing the money, two notorious robbers operating on a motorcycle who specialize in trailing unsuspecting customers waylaid him and snatched the money. Upon alarm raised by the victim, eagle eyed police operatives immediately chased the suspects, apprehended them and recovered the loot instantly as they tried to escape.
The suspects are as follows:
- Ugochukwu Nnaji male aged 28yrs of Oboro Amurie, in Isu LGA, Im. State.
- Chibueze Mgboji male aged 21yrs of Obudi Agwa in Oguta LGA, Imo State.
The two suspects have confessed to have specialized in snatching money from unsuspecting bank customers within and around the state. They will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
2. Meanwhile, on 21/12/2016, operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the State Command arrested four (4) robbery suspects at Green Hostel, Orji, Owerri. The suspects had robbed some victims of their laptop, phones, some cash and other valuables. One of the suspects, Obinna Njoku was arrested at Shopping Plaza, Douglas Road, Owerri, where he went to dispose off the laptop. He named his cohorts who were later arrested and some of the stolen items have been recovered and identified by their respective owners.
Suspects include:
- Charles Nwokeke male aged 28 of Umuakagu Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA.
- Obinna Njoku male aged24yrs of Uguri Ibeme in Isiala Mbano LGA.
- Bright Nwankwo male aged 20yrs of Umuogbantu Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State.
- Emelda Michael female aged 20yrs of Okoh in Anambra State.
Thorough investigation has commenced and suspects will soon be charged to court.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Taiwo F. Lakanu, has restated the Command’s resolve to ensure adequate security during the festive periods and beyond in the state. He stated that if the birds learn to fly without perching, the hunter will learn to shoot without aiming.
