Chesapeake Climate Action Network Implies Governor Hogan Is A Racist

Tragically, through his silence, Governor Larry Hogan appears to support Donald Trump’s racist policy to effectively ban Muslims from entering America from several foreign nations. It’s a disgrace. Hogan likes to suggest he’s a political moderate, but saying nothing over the weekend as innocent people were detained and expelled from our country proves otherwise.

Honestly, I was planning to send you an email this morning focused solely on that other major issue vital to America’s national security: climate change.

But given Hogan’s unconscionable silence, I thought I’d ask you to take two quick steps this morning. First, email Larry Hogan to tell him you are deeply disappointed by his apparent support of Trump’s appalling immigration ban. Second, on that other fact of global concern, tell your state delegates and state senator in Annapolis to RESIST Hogan’s very real war on clean energy here at home in Maryland.

On national security, Larry Hogan is playing The Trump Card. Tell Hogan you oppose the ban on innocent Muslims. And tell your state senator and delegates right now to override Hogan’s veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act.

The ban on Muslim immigrants speaks for itself. It is cruel and unacceptable on its face.

But like Trump, Hogan is also aggressively OPPOSED to major policies that would expand wind and solar power in the fight against global warming. That’s right: He’s opposed.

The Governor VETOED a highly popular bill – passed by the Maryland General Assembly last spring – that would move our state to a full 25 percent clean electricity by the year 2020. The legislation would create over a thousand new jobs and boost Maryland’s economy. No wonder it’s called the Clean Energy Jobs Act. And now it’s time to overturn Hogan’s harmful veto. Won’t you help?

The Maryland House of Delegates will vote tomorrow – tomorrow! – on whether to override the Governor’s energy veto. We need three-fifths of the delegates to vote with us, so that means they need to hear from you right now. The Maryland Senate will vote on Thursday.

It’s time to stop the Hogan-Trump policies on immigrants and the environment. Tell Hogan you oppose the ban on innocent Muslims. And tell your state senator and delegates right now to override Hogan’s veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act.

Here’s the truth: Since taking office, Larry Hogan has waged a war on clean energy.1 He’s opposed energy efficiency standards that have saved consumers BILLIONS of dollars. He’s appointed anti-clean energy extremists to the state’s Public Service Commission. And he’s downsized the Maryland Energy Administration.

Now he’s coming for the jobs – clean energy jobs. Until now, those jobs have been steadily growing in Maryland in both the solar and wind industries. Our last Republican governor – Bob Ehrlich – signed a similar clean power bill that basically launched those industries in Maryland more than a decade ago.

But Hogan, absurdly, calls clean energy policies a “tax” on consumers. Just like Trump.

It’s time to stop the Hogan-Trump attack on clean energy in Maryland. Tell your state senator and delegates right now to override Hogan’s veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act.

If you attended the Women’s March on Washington on January 21st, then you heard the call: Go home and fight Trump where you live. In Maryland, that means standing up for workers’ rights and for immigrants and for health care whenever you can. And on climate change, it means standing up to Hogan right now.

Contact Larry Hogan today on immigration. And contact your representatives in Annapolis today to tell them clean energy is a national security imperative in the face of climate change. Tell them to reject Hogan’s harmful veto of the Clean Energy Jobs Act.

Many thanks,
