The tragic events of September 11, 2001, are uppermost in many Americans’ minds each anniversary of the date – and, for some, all year long. Today—the tenth anniversary—there will be another step to memorializing those who lost their lives and honoring the emergency workers who endangered their lives and, sadly, in many cases lost or shortened them.

Because today the completed memorial, with two reflective pools that are the exact footprint where the North and South World Trade Center towers once stood, will be opened to the loved ones of those who died.

The museum is still under construction, and because of this visitors to the memorial site must be limited. Only 1,500 visitors can come at one time, and the waiting list for free passes is already three months long!
