nOnenline on the Young Adult Library Services Association’s website is “Dare tonRead…For the Fun of It.”  Of course, these letters are red and drippy, and other letters onnthe page are green and gooey—YALSA really seems to want tonappeal to teens gearing up for Halloween.

nIndeed,na creepy book can be even more scary than a horror movie or hauntednhouse. When something appeals to our imaginations, gets into ournheads, it can be really, truly frightening!

nDonyou like to read scary books and stories? I REALLY don’t like horror, but I donlove a good murder mystery. My favorite mystery author is Agatha Christie (her books are best for teens and adults), and some mysteries meant for younger kids include Zilpha Keatley Snyder’s The Egypt GameandnE.L. Konigsburg’s From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs.Basil E. FrankweilerCarolnHurst has compiled a list ofnmany, many more mysteries for kids.

nIncan’t vouch for this list of horror picks—I would be toonscared to read the books on the list!—but if horror is your thing, ngo for it!
