n(However, California and Tennessee have established official NativenAmerican Days in September.)

nOfncourse, every family can choose to celebrate Columbus or NativenAmericans (OR BOTH!), even if they don’t live in South Dakota!

nIntraveled to South Dakota for the first time this summer, and I sawnsome amazing and sad and beautiful memorials, artifacts, art, andnhistorical markers having to do with the Oglala Lakota and othernIndians. Here are some things that struck me as I remembered thisntrip:

nIn saw some poverty and read some heart-rending stories aboutn mistreatment of Native Americans. But I also saw a lot of strengthn and character; heren is a video about a Lakota boy who has plenty of each!
