nAnfolklorist is someone who studies (not surprisingly) folklore—whichnis the traditional customs and stories and perhaps beliefs of ancommunity or culture. It’s the stuff that is passed down through thengenerations by word of mouth.

nUnfortunately,nHurston’s mom died when she was still just a young teenager, and herndad remarried and sent her off to boarding school. But at some pointnhe stopped paying her tuition, so the school expelled Hurston. Shenhad to work and ended up lying about her age to be able to enter ancost-free high school and earn her diploma. She went on to attendnmultiple universities and earned a BA in anthropology at age 37.
