November 10 – World Science Day for Peace and Development

nSciencenis one of the best tools we have for making life better.

n

n
n

n

nUnfortunately, nhumanity has used many scientific discoveries and technologicalninventions in ways that have made the environment worse and the worldnless safe. Thousands of nuclear bombs sitting around… Oil spills… Burning fossil fuels creating smog and global climatenchange… These are just a very few on the highlight reel ofnhumankind’s negative impact on the world.

n

n
n

n

nSomenpeople look at these grim results of science and technology and wringntheir hands about science itself. They blame inventions andntechnology rather than overpopulation, the drive to dominate land andnresources, and profit-driven short-term thinking.

n

n
n

n

nThencure for bad use of science isn’t wringing hands and bemoaningnscience…it’s better, more mature use of science, and it’s even morenscience. n

n

n
n

n

nThenUnited Nations created this day to urge people to use science onnbehalf of peace and to come up with innovative technologies to make ansustainable future!
