nOnenof my favorite scientists in the world is sometimes considered thenrock star of physics.

nWhichnis only partly because he used to be a rock star!

Cox in the 1980s |
n
nWell…maybennot a rock star, exactly, but Cox was a keyboard player for twondifferent rock bands – D:Ream and Dare.

n
n
nHenwas so involved with his band commitments, he got a D in his MathsnA-level (Advanced Mathematics). Still, he managed to earn anfirst-class Bachelor of Science degree and an MPhil in Physics, andnwhen D:Ream disbanded, he went on to complete his Doctor ofnPhilosophy (PhD) in high-energy particle physics. n

nCoxnis now part of the High Energy Physics group at the University ofnManchester, and he works at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Thenmain reason he is famous, however, is that he has taken the time tonpresent science to the masses in BBC and other programs, in popularnscience books, and in speaking engagements. He’s even made annappearance in Doctor Who and has worked as a science advisor for anscience fiction film.
