n

n
n

n

nYeah, nyeah, you’ve probably never heard of such a thing, but it’s a realnholiday being promoted each year by the National Mustard Museumn(which you have probably also never heard of) of Middleton,nWisconsin.

n

n
n

n

nWhatndo you do on Mustard Day? The usual: music, games, entertainment, nfood. In this case, food is key – there are hot dogs and brats toneat with a variety of mustards. Mustard tasting (or sampling) isn’tnsomething I’ve ever heard of before…

n

n
n

n

n…Butnon Mustard Day, it’s a thing!

I’m not sure about this Mustard Day activity…

Maybe all I should say about this is, “Don’t try this at home!”

n

n
n

n

nMustardnis a popular condiment (sauce) made from the seeds of one of thenmustard plants. Did you know that there are several mustard plantsnused to make this food: white or yellow mustard, brown or Indiannmustard, and black mustard.

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n
n

n

nWhatnis done to the seeds varies with the mustard: they are typicallynground, but sometimes they are mixed with other ingredients whole, ncracked, or even just bruised. The seeds are mixed with water, salt, nlemon juice or other liquids, and sometimes flavorings or spices. Thenresulting condiment is sometimes one smooth color (typically brightnyellow to dark brown) or a mottled, speckly color.

n

n
n

n

nHerenare just a few of the kinds of mustard people in the U.S. can easilynbuy in grocery stores:

n

n
n

n
