Prisons were akin to hell on Earth. Furthermore, the most dangerous inmates in the world were confined to this jail at the time. However, it is currently claimed that multiple ghosts wander the same jail.
This jail became well-known due to the detainees who bore the name of this institution and the terrible penalties they received. Originally, this jail was designed to house only 250 inmates. However, the number of convicts has climbed by over 1000 in the last 50 years.

Later, the emergence of infectious illnesses such as tuberculosis (TB) resulted in an increase in the mortality toll of inmates in jails.
This jail was decommissioned in 1971. Eastern State shut down in 1971 and sat empty for almost 20 years. A jail full of cats wandered the decaying walls, and it was reopened to the public for historical tours in 1994.
For decades, officers and inmates have claimed haunting activity at the prison, and this activity appears to have escalated after the penitentiary was permanently closed to inmates. The prison’s notoriety makes it an ideal location for the haunted house attraction that it becomes every Halloween. However, the spirits here are extremely genuine.
