Universal Pictures are revving up the engines on this one!
After the success the Fast & Furious franchise has been garnering over the past few instalments and with the most recent one Fast & Furious 8 (Fate of the Furious in other territories) showing off Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson’s chemistry, the studio is looking to expand the car-racing cinematic universe.
Statham and Johnson’s respective characters, Deckard Shaw and US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs, were introduced into the franchise in separate films, those being Fast Five for Johnson and Fast & Furious 6 for Statham. Both characters were at first the enemy of the car-racing crew but eventually gained trust and respect to join up.
The idea of their spin-off is being developed right now. Chris Morgan, the head writer of the franchise, is being tapped to write the script but the project is only being talked about now, with no firm footing found yet. This spin-off would also serve a way for the next instalment of the franchise story to be also developed.
Fate of the Furious is going in its second weekend with over $680 million already earned in box office revenue.
