Eight women were burned alive in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It should be noted that something similar often happens in the DRC. There are even some shamans who point to certain women by labelling them as witches.
Moreover, most of these sorcerers are women. They are often approached with complaints about poor harvests and other issues. Shamans most often point to a woman as the source of the problem, calling her a witch. As a result, the victim is overtaken by a crowd in her house, doused with gasoline, and burned alive.
The media reports that from June to September of this year, more than 300 women were accused of witchcraft in this way. Most of them managed to escape death, but eight were still burned.
Officially, such persecution and attempts in the DR Congo are, of course, considered criminal offences. However, in fact, law enforcement agencies practically turn a blind eye to such executions and do not even investigate these cases.
