Mouni Roy began her acting career with the daily soap, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2007), and eventually became one of small-screen’s most popular actresses with shows like Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev (2011) and Naagin (2015). And last year, she made her Bollywood debut as Akshay Kumar’s sharp-tongued Bengali wife in Gold. The actress has an interesting lineup of films in her kitty, including Brahmastra and Made in China.
Ask her if her transition from TV to films was tough, and she replies, “Not really. I bagged Gold when I wanted to migrate from television to movies.” Now that she has successfully shifted mediums, Mouni wants to focus on movies. She shares, “I am what I am today because of Naagin. That show is popular and I hope that it continues for many years. But for now, I am only focussing on films.”
Mouni credits her success to hard work and nothing else. While there have been speculations that she landed films following recommendation by some top stars, the actress denies it. “I had always wanted to play characters that would challenge me as an actor and add value to the film. I have auditioned for all my projects and earned my place in them. I feel that cinema has opened up to every person who is talented. Hopefully, I will continue getting good work in the future,” she says.
On the personal front, Mouni has no plans of tying the knot in the near future. “I am single and my priorities are my family, friends and upcoming projects,” she signs off.
