Russia Strikes Engineering college in Kupiansk, Ukraine

A Russian bomb attack in the northern part of Kharkiv region this Tuesday, practically destroyed an engineering faculty.

The attack took place at 2:30 pm (local time) in the city of Kupiansk, after the regional governor accused the Russians of using the S-300 missile.

“The invaders bombed Kupiansk again. Today, an enemy S-300 missile hit the Kupyan Motor Vehicle Vocational College,” Oleh Sinyehubov told Telegram.

Synyehubov added, “According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. However, the facilities of the higher educational institution were almost completely destroyed,” as he posted pictures of the attacked area on the platform.

Kharkiv is one of the areas with the highest number of attacks on civilian infrastructure due to its proximity to the Russian border and eastern Ukraine.

The city was the second largest in the country and at the beginning of the war, it was the target of a severe siege. A Ukrainian counteroffensive that developed in the last quarter of the year allowed the Russians to be pushed out, and their withdrawal allowed for further discovery of alleged human rights violations by Russian forces.

More than 7,000 civilians have died in the conflict in Ukraine as of January 16, according to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. However, the organization warned that the actual death toll could be much higher because of difficulties in counting the dead in areas besieged or occupied by the Russians, such as Mariupol, where thousands are estimated to have died.
