1. Harry Maguire was a A student at School
Maguire isn’t all about football, he is an intelligent boy who passes his exam with distinction..
His former Deputy teacher, Sue Cain had this to say about him: “He had his head screwed on even at that age. He did everything you asked him to do and he never questioned why. He was popular, and he was huge.
“Even at a young age he was very tall but he has filled out since then too. He towered over the other teams. He got A and A grades in his GCSEs.
“I think he would have gone on to study business or maths and probably would have been an accunted. He was very capable academically”.
2. Maguire’s nickname is embarrassing..
Harry Maguire is commonly known by his teammates in both club and country as ‘slabhead’ thanks to Jamie Vardy’s who gatecrashed his press conference and asked him a silly question.
Jamie said: “Hi, this is Jamie Vardy from Vardy news- what is the diameter of your head?” and from that moment the nickname ‘Slabhead’ was born.
3. Two of Maguire’s brothers are footballers.
His two brothers Laurence and Joe both play for football for a living. Laurence plays for Chesterfield in the National League while Joe plays for Northern Premier League side Giansborough Trinity.
Laurence was recently selected for the England C side, a team for under-23 players who are outside the football league.
4. Rio Fernadinand and John Terry and Maguire’s biggest idol
Maguire had this to say about those two legends; ‘The two greatest centre- havles when i was growing up were John Terry and Rio Ferdinand told reporters back in 2007.
“I really looked up to them, especially Rio Ferdinand, because he brought the ball out of defense really well. Very comfortable on the ball and he had a bit of everything in his prime. A great centre-half in his time’
5. Fans wanted Maguire to be on the new £50 note.
After a sensational display in the World Cup in which England came 4th, England fans launched a petition to get a picture of him riding an inflatable unicorn on the new £50 note.
